Friday Day 8 - Deadwood to Spearfish and Back

Today we split up for a bit. Dusty and Karen biked up to Lead, then up Deer Mountain, then over to Cheyenne Crossing – quite a feat, since that is a huge climb out of Deadwood! Georgia and I drove to the Teddy Roosevelt monument, which resembles a castle turret and was supposed to be a lookout tower but has bars across the door so we couldn’t go in. But we did get over to 3 lookout areas. Cool area! Then we had Ron drive us to Cheyenne Crossing and met up with Dusty and Karen to finish out the day. We floated down gorgeous Spearfish Canyon (Dusty is in front of Bridal Veil Falls) and ate lunch in Spearfish after visiting 2 bike shops there. Then we took on the road that paralleled the interstate and fought the headwind and hill back up to Deadwood – 33 miles for Georgia and me, and I think it was 45 miles for Dusty and Karen.
