Saturday, Day 9 – Rest Day in Deadwood

Touring Deadwood, resting and eating out took up our day today – a wonderful way to spend a day off biking! We left the Franklin Hotel for breakfast, then checked out the train depot for information about the town. Then we took the tour bus through town, up to the fantastic view at the Boot Hill Cemetery (called that because Wild Bill Hickock was buried so his boots pointed west, as well as the other cowboys there) with our very fluent and verbal bus driver/tour director. The girls and Ron took the trolley on its entire route while I took a nap, stopping at the chocolate shop by bribing the driver with candy! Karen M. joined us today and we all met up for a wonderful supper at Jakes in the Midnight Star Casino (Kevin Costner’s place in Deadwood). Georgia and Karen watched the Mustang car show on Main St. below through the restaurant window. We walked off supper by walking down Main Street and watching the actors get ready for the reenactment of Jack McCall’s trial (the guy who shot Wild Bill Hickcock in the 1880’s).
