We left South Dakota and went straight for Soda Springs, ID, to visit with John and Elizabeth.Except for a little power issue with the truck (it died on hills a couple of times which we fixed with a new fuel filter in Wells, NV,) we had an uneventful trip.John and Elizabeth took us around to visit the sights, among which was a beautiful trip to the TetonNational Park.We rode the tram up one of the mountains to see the view, which was breathtaking (in more than one way, since it was at 10,000 plus feet).I also eyeballed the new bike trail through the park and to Jackson Hole, which I’ll have to check out next time. The next day we drove to the one mountain in the area which had gold mines. The dogs loved getting out and here’s a picture of Bean, the new little dog.We saw beautiful flowers, an old mine, and John and I hiked to the top of the talus slope and John almost made it to the top of the mountain. It was a bit slower for me going down, and I found myself stepping from rock to rock very carefully while John was jumping over them with perfect ease, carrying a big geology specimen for Elizabeth to look at.The next day we rested and got ready for the next week, then took off for Rye Patch, NV on Monday. We have been here checking out the area for gold – I’ve found antelope on the hillside, quartz crystals and lots of lizards – but no gold as of yet.I’ve spent a few days working on a quilt project, which I’ll probably show you next time. Also, I took a long hike to view the big local mountain, Mt.Majuba.I took a couple of pictures from the top of the mountain and the Rye Patch Reservoir in the valley below. Our camper is halfway down the mountain’s slopes, but I don’t see it in this picture.Tomorrow we’re going to town to take care of supplies and shopping, so I’ll be able to post this on the internet. We’ll be here for another week, then we’re off to 50 miles west of Lake Tahoe to Nevada City, CA, to check out the area for a week, and maybe make our way down the CA coast, arriving in AZ mid-October or so.I’ll keep you posted!
We are happy to hear from you. You two have been the topic of conversation at the coffee group with all of us wondering where in the world you are. Thanks for sharing the great pictures with us. I was just talking with a friend today about bike trails. Did you know that you can ride trails all the way from Wash. DC to Pittsburgh? Goes over the mountains. Sounds like fun and apparently there are places to stay along the trail.
